Greening of the Garden

The 13th Annual Greening of the Garden, "Green is Grand," will illustrate the marriage of elegance and sustainability. Live music will waft through the air as guests enjoy hors d' oeuvres, drinks, dinner, dessert, a raffle, and open bidding on live auction items. Tickets are $50 purchased prior to the event and $60 if purchased day-of-event. Tickets purchased online more than a week before the event will be mailed to you. After May 1, tickets purchased online will be held for you at the event entrance. Greening of the Garden is sponsored by:

Founders Garden Grand Opening

Join the Garden in celebrating our newest addition, the Founders Garden. The Garden will be open free to the public from 9am to noon, with a short program at 10:00am. Guest of Honor will be Donna Porter, who founded the Botanical Garden Society of the Ozarks in 1993.

Little Sprouts Garden Time

Bring your preschooler for a short nature-based activity each Wednesday morning. Activities include a story, a game, or a take-home craft. Little Sprouts is free with garden admission/free to BGSO members.
 
The Heritage Trail: One Route, Three Histories of Arkansas
May 15, 2008, 4:30 to 7:30pm

The Heritage Trail runs through the Garden. This class will trace the route of the Butterfield Trail Stage Coach, the Trail of Tears, and Civil War troop routes through NWA.

Learn why all three trail routes followed practically the same path. Place yourself on each route and into life in 1850's northwest Arkansas.

Program presenters are experts in their fields and include:

Butterfield Trail: Marilyn Heifner, Director, Town Center and Fayetteville A&P Commission

Susan Young, Outreach Coordinator, Shiloh Museum

Trail of Tears: John McLarty, VP of Arkansas Chapter of Trail of Tears Association

Civil War Routes: John Scott, Superintendent of Pea Ridge National Military Park

This Event is FREE to all.

 
Discover Dragonflies

Halloween Pennant photo by Robert ThomasJoin dragonfly expert Bob Thomas for an introduction to the beautiful dragonflies and damselflies of the Garden. The first hour of this class will take place in the conference room, where Bob will share information about these flying jewels. The remainder of the morning will be spent in the garden, gently capturing, identifying, and releasing these fascinating insects. Space is limited to 20 participants. Payment of course fee is required to reserve your place.

Flower Arranging Series: A Four-Part Workshop
May 21, 2008, 6:00 to 7:30pm
Arranging Flowers at BGOBring home a fresh flower arrangement each week of this four-part class! Thea Daniel of Rose of Sharon Event Florist will lead this hands-on workshop which will introduce particpants to several styles of flower arranging. No experience necessary. This class will take place four weeks in a row, May 21, May 28, June 4, and June 11.
Course fee includes instruction, flowers, and supplies. Limited to 12 participants, and payment of course fee is required to reserve your place.

Mozart & Beethoven in the Garden

A concert on the Great LawnBring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of classical music in a beautiful setting. This FREE public concert is sponsored by Metropolitan National Bank, Celebrate Magazine, and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks will be at work in the garden. These artists work in outdoor settings with easels. Visitors are welcome to to observe these friendly artists at work.
 
Summer Cocktail Series: Days of Wine and Roses
June 12, 2008, 6:00pm
Welcome summer blooms in the Garden with live music and wine. Tickets to this casual after-hours event are $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Tickets go on sale online one month prior to this event.

Butterflies and Moths of Arkansas with Lori Spencer

Join the author of the field guide to Arkansas' Lepidoptera in exploring the wealth of butterflies and moths who call the Garden home. Part of BGO's celebration of International Pollinator Week. Lori will speak about the intricate relationship between plants and butterflies and explain simple ways that everyone can work to protect these winged wonders!
 
Red, White, and Blooms!

Join the 50-piece Arkansas Winds Community Concert Band for an evening of patriotic favorites on the Great Lawn. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs. Free with admission/free to members.

Join us for a reprise of last summer's fabulous event. Enjoy the eponymous blossoms and beverages as the day winds down. Light appetizers will be served at this casual event. Tickets are $15 for members/ $20 for non-members, and they go on sale one month before the event.

In the day, moonflowers hide behind lush green vines. As the sun goes down, they unfurl huge white, fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers. Come see the moonflowers and other evening blooms while you enjoy a mojito and light appetizers. Tickets to this casual after-hours event are $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
