Volunteers are the heart of the Botanical Garden and our volunteers log thousands of hours each year in support of our mission to educate and entertain our visitors.
Our volunteers work in every area of our organization, including in the Garden itself, with adult and children’s programs, and for our special events. In 2015 we had over 200 volunteers help for a total of more than 8,500 hours!
Many of our volunteer gardeners are local Master Gardeners, but you don’t have to be a Master Gardener to help us with the greenhouse, mowing, the Butterfly House, and all the other tasks required to keep our Garden beautiful and healthy.
Some of our volunteers assist us with our many education programs. They offer tours to children’s or adult groups, help at special children’s educational events like Earth Day or Butterfly Days, or assist with the Little Sprouts preschool program on Wednesday mornings.
Because we are open all year-round, we also rely heavily on volunteers to take care of answering the phone, helping us with mailing, working in the Gift Shop and greeting visitors, signing up new members, or anything else that might come up in a day. We have a whole crew who helps us with our frequent mail outs and with other staff projects.
Finally, our special events are so special in large part because of the efforts of our volunteers. Some tend bar, while others help set up or tear down for events. They also greet visitors, take care of registrations, provide food, and look after our guests.
Each year in February we honor our volunteers and recognize the many hours they have contributed as well as award prizes for outstanding efforts in each area of service. We would love to add you to our team that makes this garden grow!
